Getting Meta

I like taking photos of people taking photos. These two Union-Square denizens laughed when they realized I did just that. Their happy moment was stolen with my cheap Canon 50mm 1.8 lens.
Michael Shulman – Violinist Extraordinaire

I found Michael Shulman performing an amazing cover version of Guns & Roses’ Sweet Child ‘O Mine in the Union Square subway station – complete with distortion and wah-wah on his electric violin. He also did a killer Billy Jean. He’s not the first violinist I’ve caught at Union Square, but he may be my [...]
Free Hugs – Who Could Say No?
It’s always a good day when the free hug girls are out in force. I especially love the girl holding the sign’s devilish smile. Taken with my cheap Canon 50mm f/1.8.
The Union Square Violinist

The Pickup Artist
I gotta give this guy some credit – he sure was trying to charm these fine young ladies to score some change, or maybe even a little love. Taken with my cheap Canon 50mm f/1.8.

I was kind of bummed out to see this kid get hauled away by the cops – but I’ll give credit to the NYPD here, they were actually very nice to him. I don’t know why I left the pigeons in the bottom. A sign of freedom maybe? Taken with my cheap Canon 50mm f/1.8.
Girl Grabs Billy Gibbons’ Crotch
Silhouettes never get old, and I will shoot them whenever I see them. I didn’t plan the whole crotch thing – it was just one of those happy accidents that I didn’t even know happened until I fired up Aperture later that night. As you may be able to tell from the sign, this was [...]
